Digital Earth Resistance Tester
Determines the effectiveness of electrical system ground connections with respect to true earth. Ground resistance is determined using the three-point measurement method and is independent of test lead length.

Applications
Measure the resistance of station ground grids, ground rods, gang switch handles and platforms, and equipment grounding conductors to verify compliance with National Electric Code (NEC) and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) grounding regulations.
 
Instrument also includes an AC Voltmeter -
Two Ranges:  0 -200 VAC / 0 - 600 VAC

Testing Large Ground Systems
If you are testing large ground systems associated with substations or power plants you will need longer test leads than are included with the ERT1500.  Our Application Note AN0009 describes the ground test procedure and how to determine if you have sufficient spacing between the test electrodes.  The article also includes the details for making a simple wire reel assembly using two spools of standard, low-cost # 12 Gauge THHN wire.

Proper system grounding is extremely important to provide safety for personnel as well as to insure that fault currents will be properly detected and interrupted. It is essential that that the grounding medium be tested to verify its integrity and to determine the ohmic value with respect to true earth.  Ground testing is a relatively simple procedure, but the underlying theory is not well understood.  We have tried to take some of the mystery out of this procedure by providing information on the procedure in The Industrial Electrician's Notebook Article 0014.
