Personal Favorite

There is a continuing debate as to whether insulation testers should have an analog or digital display.  I personally prefer the analog meter because of its quick response.  The current decay that occurs during the first few seconds of an insulation test is a very good initial indicator as to the quality of the insulation system.  This is true for hipots as well as megohmmeters. (On a megohmmeter this current decay will be seen as an increase in resistance with time.)

With a digital meter it is more difficult to see this initial current decay because of the up-date time of the display. A digital meter, however, is a little easier to interpret and a bit more rugged.  If you prefer a digital instrument check out the TPI SDIT300 unit.
